Bright Colored Carolina Herrera Dresses Bring the Fun in Spring 2012 Collection
When it comes time to start getting ready for the spring and summer seasons, Carolina Herrera dresses are a natural selection when looking to stand out and look your best. Get ready for some beautiful spring like colors, such as lime/canary yellows, greens, rusty reds and even prints, as Carolina Herrera’s Signature Spring 2012 collection of dresses and outfits brings new freshness to your wardrobe.
This collection features lots of linear themes, which Herrera says were inspired by the Bauhaus, one of her main inspirations. The Bauhaus is a modern architectural style that was started in Germany from 1919-1933, that was well known for its sleek design and straight lines, but their design principles applied to all art forms, not just architecture. That is why you see it know in Herrera’s spring fashion collection, featuring such dresses as the Colorblock dress, which features a beautiful front panel construction of clean, straight vertical lines separating the black and white. The featured red belt also has a clean lined design to it as well. The simple straight lines used throughout the dress, including the way it falls straight down and along the body, is what Herrera was trying to achieve using the Bauhaus principles of design, and it works wonders in her quest designing gorgeous, elegant, yet simple dress designs.
Another major theme for this collection is the use of prints, such as the Sparrow-Print Belted Shirtdress, which prominently features small yellow and green sparrow birds throughout the entire dress. Herrera’s shirtdresses are one of her main staples, but they usually feature very clean and plain colors. This time she decided to get a little more playful, and sprung for these sparrow prints on a white silk pleated skirt. This particular dress comes with a green leather hinged belt, and the skirt’s hem stops right at the knee. The print makes this dress perfect for a fun afternoon stroll downtown.
Herrera is known for using very simple neutral and achromatic colors in her collections. However, with this collection she has decided to let loose a little and go with some very exciting and spring-like colors. The colors used for the spring collection include, bright sunny yellows, green, rusty reds and even some blues. The inspiration behind some of these more daring colors came from vintage Bakelite bangles, which are a type of bracelet made using Bakelite. Bakelite was one of the first plastics developed, and it was made using formaldehyde and phenol. When exposed to air, the plastic naturally oxidizes and causes the color to change over time. Their incredible color is what gave Herrera the inspiration to try some of these exciting colors. You’ll also be able to find matching Bakelite bangles being sold as accessories to these creations.
While Herrera has tried some new things with this collection, she still stays true to her main design principle of simplicity and elegance. Her little gamble incorporating lots of vibrant colors has definitely paid off with this successful collection, showing us that she has some versatility.
