Their fur is able to trap the heat from the sun to keep them warm. Also, their fur is oily which makes it easier for them to swim since it repels water. Polar bears can sense their prey even from a distance of 20 miles.
Polar bears are very patient hunters. They catch their prey using a still-hunting method. By this, they use their sense of smell to find a seal’s breathing hole. Once found, they would patiently sit above it waiting for the seal to come out for air. The poor seal stands no chance with the speed of a bear’s forepaw.
Polar bears are marine mammals. They usually stay at sea or in areas where ice meets water. This is mainly because they follow their prey. As seals move and migrate, so does the bear. If they should ever get stranded in a place where ice has melted, they stay in that place until the next freeze up and continue on with their hunting.
The fact that polar bears are very large and are carnivores makes men assume that they are aggressive as well. The truth is they would rather flee than attack. This is especially true when they are full. The story changes when bears are hungry. Their behavior becomes unpredictable and they may attack men when provoked.
Since they live in the icy regions of the earth, the chance of seeing a real one is so small especially for those who live in tropical countries.
