Does hollywood negatively effect gays image?
Do y'all think it portraits gays and lesbians in a negative way. I mean a little over the top stuff. For example with folks who never know any gays or befriend with one. Do you think some of that over the top image that movies and tv charactors are misleading to people?
This is just came up in the discussion I had with my husband. I am not trying to offend anyone by this question. I grew up in Thailand so I was never raised to see that being gay is an "issue". I'm talking about american culture.
Yeah, I think it does. The gay guys I've known don't act anything like the movie ones (though they do sometimes for fun, haha, BECAUSE of the images they see in movies, that basically are a way of saying, "you should act like this if you are gay"). But only for that ridiculous, over-the-top stuff...it enforces usually negative stereotypes.
